Since we were going to be at Disney on Christmas Eve and Day, we decided to do all of our traditions on Sunday. We went to a local ward that morning. When we got back, I took Chandler back to our room so we could nap while the rest of the group played some games. Mom started cooking our traditional Christmas Eve dinner: potato soup with bacon and cheese and these little sandwiches on rolls that have a sauce on them that is so delicious I can't even describe it. After eating, we sat down to do the Brown Family Christmas Cantata. This is a program Dad set up when we were kids where we read the Christmas story in Luke and sing Christmas carols at the appropriate time during the story (ie we sing "Away in a Manger" right after it says "she wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger"). Usually we just read it from a sheet of paper printed off from the computer. This year, Dad surprised us with brand new books that has the story with the words to all the songs plus other family favorite Christmas carols. And through out the whole book are family pictures from when we were babies all the way up to current family pictures that include the grandkids. Amazing family heirloom!
Now that kids are in the picture, we have a cast to play the key roles in the Christmas story. I was in charge of costuming this year. Introducing the cutest actors of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus ever:
After the cantata, we opened presents. How fun is it to watch little kids open presents?! So cute.
Nonnie and Grandpa gave Chandler this yappy little dog that he and Tanner loved (also Tanner loved his flashlight...):
Once we were done, we sent the kids off to bed to sleep until Santa came while the rest of us played another game and then went off to bed ourselves to get a good night's sleep for our day at Animal Kingdom!
